Directions:
- Read the scenario carefully. Decide who you agree with the most and why. Make a note of it.
- Share your ideas with a partner or group of three. Do you agree or disagree? Why? Did your partner/group change your mind? How?
- Reflect: In complete sentences, write about which person in the scenario you agree with. Why does Joey, Stacy or Cory’s argument make sense to you? Did you change your mind during the discussion? If so, what was said that changed your mind?
Scenario:
Joey, Stacy and Cory are arguing about the relationship between the greenhouse effect and climate change.
Joey: Human activity is the only cause of the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect causes climate change. That means humans are the cause of climate change.
Stacy: The greenhouse effect is a natural process that makes life on Earth possible. The greenhouse effect is intensified by the burning of fossil fuels, which is speeding up the rate of climate change.
Cory: I agree with Stacy, except I don’t think the rate of climate change has changed.
