Welcome to Scientists Serving Communities 2025!

Maryland community leaders and decision makers are invited to the second annual Scientists Serving Communities workshop hosted by University of Maryland’s Climate Resilience Network. There will be no fee for conference/workshop attendance.

This is your opportunity to guide the Climate Resilience Network’s research priorities, communicate your needs as a stakeholder or decision maker directly to scientists, and identify how  emerging research can strengthen community climate resilience efforts.

Overview

Summary
The Scientist Serving Communities workshop was created to provide a forum for regional stakeholders, community members, University researchers, and subject matter experts to share information in an informal moderated discussion. This forum is the first step in applying the science completed at universities to information packaged for decision making by program managers, policy makers, emergency management services, public works, and other important institutions. Successful research-to-operations requires the researcher or intermediary entity to understand the requirements of the operators. The intermediary step is where the Climate Resilience Network at University of Maryland, College Park fits into the equation.

Expectations
Stakeholders and researchers should gain knowledge about the challenges that need to be addressed in different subject areas to move research science into applied science. At a minimum, stakeholders should leave the workshop with several points of contact in subject matter that is most relevant to their efforts in the community. Ideally, longer lasting collaborative efforts are started at the workshop that carry into on-the-ground, co-developed projects that Do Good in the region.
